Tromsø International Film Festival
The Festival
Founded in 1991, Tromsø International Film Festival is one of the Scandinavia’s largest and most distinctive film festivals. Located north of the Arctic Circle and arranged at the end of the polar night, the festival draws household names from the international film community to Tromsø every year.
The festival presents cutting edge international cinema across a range of unique venues, including its outdoor Winter Cinema and Verdensteatret, a single-screen cinema in continuous use since 1916. The festival awards the Aurora Prize for Best Film in Competition, alongside the international critics’ FIPRESCI Prize and the film societies’ Don Quixote Award.
Industry at TIFF
Alongside its public programme, TIFF is an established meeting place for the Norwegian and international film industry, with talks, seminars, project forums and professional events throughout the festival week.
Arctic Discovery is TIFF’s international project market for fiction feature films. The festival is also home to Below Zero, a financing forum for documentary films and series about life in the polar regions, bringing filmmakers together with broadcasters, financiers and other international partners.
Together, the industry programmes make Tromsø a meeting point for new films and projects emerging from the Nordic and Arctic regions.
